My name is Kaydence Bodus, and I am a student currently pursuing a degree in physics. I enjoy reading, learning, and solving problems. I am a creative and curious person, and enjoy writing about current topics, science, and activism. Throughout this class, I have grown significantly as a writer. Through creative thinking, close reading, and developing analytical skills; this has opened my eyes to see text in a new light. I have learned how to interpret the author’s intent behind text and notice the importance. Moreover, the ability to approach analysis with a new intent.
For my final revision, I decided to revise my persuasive project, “Cutting Space Funding Hurts More Than Exploration - Jobs, Climate, and Global Leadership Are at Risk”. Although I am proud of this project, I chose to revise this because I felt as though I could go into greater depth, especially by incorporating additional links for the readers to access. By doing this, it will allow the readers to connect and understand the importance of NASA’s missions, and why we should urge those in power to not cut the funding of these organizations, for more of a persuasive flow.
My revisions consisted of making some sections slightly shorter, as a typical website would have. Additionally, adding appropriate links to sections that needed to be explained in greater detail.
In addition, I am proud how much I have grown as a writer. From making personal narratives to my own website and petitioning for change. These are all valuable skills to obtain, no matter the field you may be in. Writing is a crucial skill, to argue, persuade, inform readers, or even research papers. I felt I gained the skills to adequately research, write, and revise a paper, which are all valuable skills.
Moreover, I am most proud of how i have developed my ability to combine passion with research. In my persuasive project on space funding, I was able to take a topic I care deeply about, scientific advancement, and translate it into a structured argument with evidence, appeals to logic and emotion, and real-world implications. This class helped me discover how writing can be more than just a school assignment; it can be a tool for advocacy and change.
Another skill I have gained is the ability to tailor writing for different audiences. From crafting a personal narrative to building an informative website, I have learned to consider who I’m writing for and how best to engage them. This came in handy when I added hyperlinks and adjusted the tone and structure of my persuasive piece to better fit a web format. These revisions helped make the argument more accessible to a wider audience, including those who may not be familiar with NASA’s current programs.
Looking back, my writing process has become more deliberate. At the beginning of the course, I often felt rushed to finish a piece in one sitting. Now, I understand the value of brainstorming, outlining, drafting, and revising, sometimes even multiple times. I have also become more confident in using sources and citing them properly, which I know will be essential in both academic and professional settings.
Finally, this course has reminded me that writing is a lifelong skill. Whether I’m communicating scientific ideas, writing grant proposals, or advocating for funding and resources in the future, the skills I have learned here will continue to be relevant. This course has made me a stronger writer, thinker, and communicator, and for that, I am grateful.
